Weapons

$18.00

The historical story “Weapons” is thematically connected with the novel “Ears under Your Sickle”, but it is not a continuation, but a special offshoot of the great epic work. Among the heroes of the story are Ales Zagorski, Mstislav Majewski, the brothers Kondrat and Andrei Kaguty, who are already familiar to the readers of “Kolasov”. The action takes place in 1862 in Moscow, where Ales and his friends come on the assignment of Kastus Kalinowski to obtain weapons for the future rebels. This is perhaps Karatkevich’s most anti-imperial work, in which the autocratic system of tsarist Russia in the middle of the last century is exposed extremely harshly. The Belarusian writer spoke about the “Goldenhead” and her moods at the time in a distinctive and vivid way, not inferior in skill to his namesake Uladzimir Hilyarovsky with his famous book “Moscow and Muscovites”.
